It is one of the 16 (Sixteen) new Central Universities recognized by the Govt. of India during the UGC 11 Plan Period to address to the concerns of ‘equity and accessand to enhance the access to quality upper education by citizens in less educationally industrial districts which have a Graduate Enrolment percentage of minimum the national average of 11%. The Central University of Karnataka (CUK) in Gulbarga of Karnataka, India has been recognized through an Act of assembly: “The Central Universities Act, 2009 (Two Thousand Nine)" by Government of India.
