Dadra and Nagar Haveli is a union territory in Western India. Dadra and Nagar Haveli is composed of two separate geographical entities Nagar Haveli, wedged between Maharashtra and Gujarat, and, one km to the northwest, the smaller enclave of Dadra, which is surrounded by Gujarat. Dadra and Nagar Haveli was the Marathas that retrieved the region from the rule of the Rajputs in the mid eighteen century. In seventeen seventy nine, the Maratha Peshwa formed an alliance with the Portuguese allowing them to collect revenue from the seventy nine villages of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
