The Institute is an autonomous R&D Institute under Government of India, Department of Biotechnology (जैव प्रौद्योगिकी विभाग). The National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute (राष्ट्रीय कृषि-खाद्य जैव प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान) is a state of the art facility in globally competitive and translatable research areas at the interface  of agricultural biotechnology, food processing and nutritional sciences.
