MDNIY is an autonomous, non profit making institute, acting as the nodal agency for the growth and exaltation of yoga culture athwart the country. The Institute is established by the Department of AYUSH, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India. The establishment of the orgenization was based on a Govt. of India initiative to revivify the yoga culture and diffuse the yoga philosophy to all parts of the country. The functioning of the Institute is under the Department of Ayush.
