The University of Mysore is a public state university
in Mysore, Karnataka, India. The university was founded during the reign of
Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, the Maharaja of Mysore (मैसूर के महाराजा).
It opened on 27-07-1916. Its first chancellor was the Maharaja of Mysore; the
first Vice Chancellor (कुलपति) was H. V. Nanjundaiah. The University
of Mysore became the first outside of the British administration in India (भारत में ब्रिटिश प्रशासन),
the sixth in India as a whole, and the first in Karnataka. It is a state
university of the affiliating type, and became autonomous on 3-03-1956, when it
gained recognition (प्राप्त की मान्यता)
from the University Grants Commission (विश्वविद्यालय अनुदान आयोग).
